The Protean Journalist

The lines are blurring as traditional forms of media are combined online as content for a multimedia audience.

In the wake of job cuts looming over the media industry, a new breed of digital media trained journalists like Maria Tan are emerging in the midst of the controversy.

Maria wins the Hunter Institute Response Ability Prize

A judging panel of media executives from Australia and New Zealand have awarded Maria Tan with the Hunter Institute Response Ability Prize for mental health reporting at the 2009 JEA Ossie Awards.

Announced during the 2009 JEA Conference held at the Burswood Intercontinental Hotel in Perth, Maria was awarded the prize for her Sydneysider article which reveals former Opposition leader John Brogden's personal struggle in the lead up to his controversial exit from politics.

Entitled 'Between the Lines', Maria's feature article unmasks the public persona of the former politician trying to keep it together while silently falling apart.

Revamping mariatan.net

That was then

The recent revisions now incorporate improvements to the overall look and navigation of the site through a re-design of the original banner and menu system.

Significant changes include an overhaul of the Broadcast Media section's original layout, with both audio and video now being combined into one easily accessible area.

New videos and the old favourites are now being hosted through YouTube on MariaTanTV. Previews for a new animation project Maria is currently working on entitled, 'More than meets the eye' can only be viewed from Maria's Facebook page.

Music from Kashi Kollective's 'The Space Between' features in this new animation project, thanks to composer and world musician, Stephen Bellm.

The Print section of mariatan.net now includes Maria's Selected Works in addition to the original Search and Browse page.

All major content changes reflect some of the more recent developments in Maria's portfolio, with plenty more to follow in the coming months.
